What is the Kingdom of God?
“Once, on being asked by the Pharisees when the Kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, “The coming of the Kingdom of God is not something that can be observed, nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the Kingdom of God is in your midst.” Luke 17:20-21 NIV
The Kingdom of God is God’s reign in the lives of his followers. Jesus invites all of us into a relationship with him where we learn to trust him, and allow him to change us.
As we become followers of Jesus, he change us into people who are more like him, people who are growing in love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control -the Fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) and living these out in the world around us. Another way of saying this is that when we follow God he reigns in our lives and the Kingdom lives within and through us.
Why don’t we talk about it at church?
We may not use the words, “Kingdom of God” every week; however, I believe that every message speaks of it. As we are challenged to seek God, and learn to allow him to lead us and change us to be people who reflect his image, we are being challenged to come under the reign of God – that is Kingdom living! I find that really exciting. I hope you do too.
